ELS completed a draft wetland mitigation bank prospectus on 1,200 acres of privately owned land in the northern part of Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska. ELS inventoried the site using the WESPAK-SE assessment. The site contains fens, bogs, forested wetlands and the highly functioning El Capitan Creek which provides spawning habitat for several salmon species and steelhead. The draft bank prospectus has been reviewed and approved with comments by the federal and state agencies that form the Interagency Review Team for wetland mitigation banks in Alaska. The wetland mitigation plan within the Mitigation Banking Instrument (MBI) will detail the proposed measures to obtain functional replacement of wetlands in the proposed service area encompassing the southern half of Southeast Alaska.
